LOST OR FOUND PETS - If you FIND a dog OR you have LOST your DOG call your local town's DCO - Dog Control Officer FIRST. If you do NOT have their contact info, please call the shelter and we will provide you with the information, just call us at 585-593-2200 ext 2. Your local Dog Control Officer deals with dogs running at large, lost or found dogs, dog licensing, dog bites, dogs barking and dangerous dogs.
You can also contact our shelter and other local shelters & rescues, you can post your missing dog or found dog on the Allegany County Missing Pet Alerts of the Southern Tier. If you lose your cat or find a stray cat, there is NOT a cat control officer, nor is there an Animal Control officer in Allegany County to report it to. You can contact our shelter and other local shelters, cat rescues and veterinarian offices and ask if they can put up a Facebook post for you. You can make a post of your missing OR found cat on Allegany County Missing Pet Alerts of the Southern Tier. Email us the information along with a picture of your missing pet OR found animal to SPCAallegany@gmail.com
SURRENDERING A PET
If you need to SURRENDER a pet, please call the shelter at 585-593-2200 ext. 2 so we can gather your information and add you to our surrender list. Since we are a no-kill shelter, and it is important that people adopt our shelter animals, because as animals are adopted out this creates space to bring in animals. If you know you will have to surrender your pet or pets, please CALL US well in advance as shelter intake space is limited. If you know you are moving, please don't wait until the last day - as we will not be able to accommodate you. We are unable to do same day surrenders, when we have space we will contact you to schedule a time for an assessment of your cat or dog you are surrendering, if the assessment goes well then we can take in your pet that day. There is NO surrender fee, but if you are able to make a donation that will greatly help in the care of your pet.
Each year hundreds of animals enter our shelter, in 2022, 558 animals entered our shelter, in 2023 it was 488 and to date for 2024 Jan 1 - Nov 20th we are at 465 animals coming into our shelter.
